I am not good with change but there comes a time when in order to make a needed change you must do some deep cleaning. After many years with a light color carpet I decided to get new flooring, I knew it was going to be a mess but the results would be worth it. A crew of three men came in and the destruction began when one of the men got down on his knees and with one blow of his hammer against a tool he had shoved under the metal strip dividing the kitchen from the great room, nails flew in several directions and they started pulling it up. Furniture had to be moved and when the very heavy hutch was pulled away from the wall fifteen years of dust surfaced and little pieces of jewelry and coins were found. It was a terrible mess but before the new could be put in place the old, with all of the grit and dust had to be removed. When you start a diet you have to throw all the junk food out of your fridge or when you need an emotional pat on the back you will find yourself, spoon in hand, finding the already half eaten carton of ice cream and finishing it off!
When you want to change your life you cannot continue to hang out at the old places where “everyone knows your name” or you will be doing the same things you were doing before. Resisting an old temptation is hard because it is familiar territory and when you get a little down in spirit, familiar feels good.
Jesus went into the Temple and found people who had been there for years, day in and day out selling animals to be used as sacrifices. He fashioned a whip and drove them out of there, He cleaned house!
Luke 19:45-46 And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold there, and them that bought; Saying to them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but you have made it a den of thieves.
As someone that prays and studies the Word, I am telling you that I feel it is getting close to the time when He is going to start cleaning house again, and I don’t want to be a dust bunny under the couch, or a piece of lost jewelry! I want to be the prize vessel set apart for a special purpose! This next scripture came to me today while I was watching my kitchen being torn apart, 1 Peter 4:17-18 It’s judgment time for God’s own family. We’re first in line. If it starts with us, think what it’s going be like for those who refuse God’s Message! If good people barely make it, what’s in store for the bad? So if you find life difficult because you’re doing what God said, take it in stride. Trust him. He knows what he’s doing, and he’ll keep on doing it.
I knew a lady that got a chemical peel because she wanted the skin on her face to be smooth. In order to achieve that she suffered greatly, her face looked like third degree burns. She had to keep her skin covered with ointment on it then covered with plastic wrap so that she wouldn’t get an infection! When it finally healed she had the smooth skin on her cheeks that she wanted. If someone would go to that much trouble for their appearance, what kind of spiritual cleansing are you willing to endure to make sure that your vessel isn’t dirty? Would you put ice cubes and tea in a dirty glass? Would you put your food on a dirty plate? Of course not, it’s a disgusting thought, so why would you expect God to put His fresh anointing into your dirty vessel?
Come on, do a little house cleaning, it is uncomfortable at first but the results are definitely worth it!
