Which is the Greatest Show on Earth?

I heard the commercial and wanted to cry because of the memories that flooded my thoughts. My son was born on February 6 and when it was nearing his first birthday the Greatest Show on Earth, which always comes to Atlanta in February, came to town. We got tickets and celebrated his birthday watching the colorful parade of people and animals at the now defunct Omni, that started the birthday tradition that lasted until his twelfth. Remembering seeing his green eyes sparkle at all the sights, the smell of popcorn and cotton candy, the colorful costumes and yes, the elephants almost overwhelmed me! The last year we went I got tickets right down on the front row, the seats closest to where the parade of elephants came in. I admit it was more scary than exciting that year and he never wanted to go again, whether he felt sorry for the animals or felt it was childish I’m not sure and won’t speculate but I have to admit it made me sad. They are now making their final tour and will give several performances here in this area, I will not be going, neither will the little boy who is now a “man full-growed” and we will celebrate his birthday in a quieter and less colorful way this year.

*Ringling Bros. World’s Greatest Shows was a circus founded in Baraboo, Wisconsin, United States in 1884 by five of the seven Ringling brothers, and this year, 2017, the final curtain will come down.

I would say the past few months we have probably been watching a circus of sorts, right? The political three-ring circus has had clowns, actors, magicians, a few animals (if you count the way some of the humans have acted) and tomorrow is the day the new President is sworn in and we will see how it all goes! I pray that our country will unite and give this new leadership a chance to succeed!

I hope we will choose to be dignified and not act like clowns or animals, but keep the instructions God gave to King Solomon in 2nd Chronicles 7:14 God appeared to Solomon that very night and said, “I accept your prayer; yes, I have chosen this place as a temple for sacrifice, a house of worship. If I ever shut off the supply of rain from the skies or order the locusts to eat the crops or send a plague on my people, and my people, my God-defined people, respond by humbling themselves, praying, seeking my presence, and turning their backs on their wicked lives, I’ll be there ready for you: I’ll listen from heaven, forgive their sins, and restore their land to health.
