How many friends do you have that know you love to watch the stages of the moon and are especially thrilled when it’s full? We moved around so much when I was growing up that I was in a new school every school year until I was a junior in high school where I was enrolled after Thanksgiving and ended up graduating from that same school! I made a few life long friends along the way, one lives in Myrtle Beach, S.C., another lives in the mountainous little town of Blue Ridge, and these girls impacted my life. I also exchange email with a couple of people that have become as dear a friend as anyone can that you have never met because they have read my blog or connected with me via my Social Media page. I have cousins that are more sisters to me than cousins, one lives in Illinois and the others way out in Los Angeles, Ca.
So you can see that my social circle is not very far reaching. I have been with some of my church friends for so long they are more like family and would help me if I called on them in a heartbeat, but I’m not sure how much they know about me, have I kept myself hidden? To an extent I think we all hide, don’t we? We can be private and keep as many secrets as we want but there is One from whom you cannot hide. Matthew 10:30 tells us that the “very hairs on our head are numbered!” He knows us up close and personal, whether that is good or bad as we see in:
Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out. But I, GOD, search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things. I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be.”
But as a person who had to move away from friends and loved ones so many times, the scripture that I cling to most is Romans 8:31-39 “So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture.” “None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.”
