Why me Lord?

It’s something we have all said at some time in our life, “Why Me Lord?” It’s the tendency to feel sorry for ourselves when things seem to be spiraling in a downward motion after we have worked so hard to make everything good, and right! Kris Kristofferson wrote and recorded the award winning song “Why Me Lord ”. I read a commentary that said it was “out of character for Kris to write and sing this type of song…” We all ask that same question probably more than once every day. The chorus says “Lord help me Jesus, I’ve wasted it so help me Jesus I know what I am, now that I know that I needed you so help me Jesus, my soul’s in Your hand.” I know of at least one book on the subject, “Why bad things happen to good people” trying to explain it. Matthew 5:43-47 “You’re familiar with the old written law, ‘Love your friend,’ and its unwritten companion, ‘Hate your enemy.’ I’m challenging that. I’m telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves. This is what God does. He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty. If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that. If you simply say hello to those who greet you, do you expect a medal? Any run-of-the-mill sinner does that.

Things happen to us all but we have the assurance that when something bad does happen we can ask God to help us, He has never let this me down. I always pray for a solution because I feel that when I pray for something to be done in a particular way I’m trying to micro-manage God and He’s just not into that!

When Jesus knelt in the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed that the plan of God would pass from Him if possible, but when He saw the plan was set in motion and there was no way out He yielded and said, “Not My will, but Yours be done.” Jeremiah 29:11 God says: I’ll show up and take care of you as I promised and bring you back home. I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. I would venture to say that there are many of us who did not plan for our lives to turn out as they have but God has a plan for your life! I have made so many stupid mistakes in my life and God is not responsible!

The good news is found in Lamentations 3:22-23 “God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, his merciful love couldn’t have dried up they’re created new every morning. How great your faithfulness!

God is so good to my that now my question is, Why Me Lord?” It’s Because He loves me so.
