and No One died on my watch today…

Like a lot of you I have a contract with a pest control company. How much they actually help I’m still not sure but I fear cancelling it not knowing how bad the ants would really be without them! I’ll tell you why I said that now; Today I looked at the swimming pool in my yard and saw the water level was too low for the Polaris to run so I trudged down the steep wooden stairs to turn on the water and then told Siri to remind me in one hour to go and check on it but when she reminded me I was busy and kept putting it off. I was very sorry for that when I finally went back to check it because the hose had come out of the water and successfully flooded the room where the water pump is. I fixed the hose and cleaned up the mess then turned around to see how much water had actually gotten into the pool, that’s when it happened. I saw a big brown “leaf” floating in the swim-out and was wondering at the “stem” on the leaf trying to figure out which tree it had fallen from when suddenly the leaf stuck a tiny nose up out of the water and I realized it was a “rouse” (because it was bigger than a mouse but smaller than a big rat) and it was struggling to live, floating and sticking its nose up to catch a breath to keep from drowning. Now I have to tell you right here that I am the one family member that never goes into the pool because I have a fear of drowning. My body will not float and I cannot keep myself up by flailing my arms and legs up and down. I admire those of you who can, it is a beautiful thing to watch a graceful swimmer, I will just never be one, and so the thoughts of anything drowning? I could not let it happen on my watch. I grabbed the net and reached out capturing it with my first try and when I plucked it out of the water it was furiously trying to get away so I knew it would not require mouth-to-mouth resuscitation (good thing for the rouse). I put the net down and it went running along the wall trying to find an opening to get out and finally got to the end of the pool where the fence quits being block and becomes chain link and he made his escape!

As I went back up the stairs I felt good about rescuing the poor creature and the song I heard my dad sing so many times, “Love Lifted Me” came to my mind, and then the scripture, Lamentations 3: 22-24 God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, His merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They’re created new every morning. How great your faithfulness! I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over). He’s all I’ve got left.

God lifts me out of the troubles in my life when I feel I am drowning and sets me on high ground, He never gets tired of rescuing me and I appreciate and cling to the safety net offered to me by Jesus. For now all is well, no one died in my pool today.
