I sincerely don’t want to offend anyone, I guess that comes from being raised in the home of a preacher where everything you say is monitored, but here goes.
I woke this morning to the news of another man being accused of sexual impropriety, and whether it’s true, or un-true, I am tired of hearing about sex on the morning, afternoon and evening news, tired of hearing about men making unwanted advances, wait until a few men start to come out and tell about the women who have propositioned them, let’s see how that goes. Giving it some thought it seems that a lot of our trouble comes from both men and women wanting to satisfy the sexual urge. Is the almighty orgasm wonderful enough to ruin so many lives? It has included everyone from politicians and preachers to actors and heads of studios, great media moguls. It’s not just the accused whose lives are ruined but they have families who have to hear it. Again, I am not saying that I’m taking up for anyone who has been accused nor saying that the #metoo movement doesn’t have merit I’m just saying I’m tired of hearing about it.
It didn’t start with us, if you read the Bible you see David having a man killed in order to have his wife, Samson lost his judgeship, his eyesight and the respect he had known as the strong man of God because he wanted satisfaction and trusted a woman who used his desire for her to get information out of him and then betrayed him. The list could go on and on but I think you get the point.
I’m going to let the Bible speak of it for me: 1 Corinthians 6:16-20 There’s more to sex than mere skin on skin. Sex is as much spiritual mystery as physical fact. As written in Scripture, “The two become one.” Since we want to become spiritually one with the Master, we must not pursue the kind of sex that avoids commitment and intimacy, leaving us more lonely than ever—the kind of sex that can never “become one.” There is a sense in which sexual sins are different from all others. In sexual sin we violate the sacredness of our own bodies, these bodies that were made for God-given and God-modeled love, for “becoming one” with another. Or didn’t you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body.
