A Cloud of Witnesses

When you read the book of Hebrews chapter 11 you read a long list, but by no means a complete list, of faith pioneers, people who stepped out on faith alone to do God’s will. I am putting here the verses that strike my heart and soul to the core:

Hebrews 11: 32-40 Through acts of faith, they toppled kingdoms, made justice work, took the promises for themselves. They were protected from lions, fires, and sword thrusts, turned disadvantage to advantage, won battles, routed alien armies. Women received their loved ones back from the dead. There were those who, under torture, refused to give in and go free, preferring something better: resurrection. Others braved abuse and whips, and, yes, chains and dungeons. We have stories of those who were stoned, sawed in two, murdered in cold blood; stories of vagrants wandering the earth in animal skins, homeless, friendless, powerless—the world didn’t deserve them!—making their way as best they could on the cruel edges of the world.

Not one of these people, even though their lives of faith were exemplary, got their hands on what was promised. God had a better plan for us: that their faith and our faith would come together to make one completed whole, their lives of faith not complete apart from ours.

When I think of all they endured and yet they are waiting on me to complete my work here before they claim their reward, I am humbled…

This Father’s Day I honor my dad who is a pioneer in the faith. What has been integrated into my life from him cannot be measured, I hope to God Almighty in heaven that I can live out the rest of my life without disappointing him so that when, and if Jesus doesn’t come to take us all home before I die, my own children can say the same of me.

Live humbly and honorably … you are being cheered on …

Happy Father’s Day daddy, you are still my hero! ❤
