I was thinking about the Ten Commandments which some think of as suggestions and talked about the first one. To remind you, it is simply stated, “You shall have no other gods”, period.
The second one is this, “No carved gods of any size, shape, or form of anything whatever, whether of things that fly or walk or swim. Don’t bow down to them and don’t serve them because I am God, your God, and I’m a most jealous God”
OK so you’re saying, “I would never do that”, to which I would answer, “Oh really?” Any time you put anything in front of doing the right thing or living your life the way that is pleasing to God, it becomes an idol whether or not you realize it. We make idols and heroes of athletes, movie stars, and rock-stars. We sit in front of a screen and binge watch certain things and don’t let anything interrupt it, but if we were asked to sit that long in a worship service and listen to a sermon? I’m sure we would all think that was way too much. Wouldn’t that almost qualify as worship? I’m not putting you down for that because I’ve done it myself, I’m just reminding you that there are more ways of having an idol than getting on your knees in front of an statue.

I LOVE your blog! You always make me “think”….thank you! I recently was searching online for ways to sell purses I seldom carry to determine what I might get for them if I sell them and what I would do with the profits. I ran across a purse by Louis Vuitton that had “Satan Loves Me” written across the bag. Yes….I lusted a LV bag for a long time and when we finally paid off our house I asked my husband for one the following month. I carried it for three years to justify the price…..and now…..I don’t want it even in my house. It wasn’t one that had “Satan Loves Me” written on it….but seeing that bag online for sale made me realize….wow…..I never needed a bag like that and did anyone really need one? You are awesome….always giving us “meat”.
