Fa la la la la la la la la

Deck the halls with boughs of holly fa la la la la la la la la.. Tis the season to be jolly, alright you know the rest of the song but what in the world made me start to sing that to myself tonight as if I were a child that needed the comfort of rocking itself to sleep while holding it’s favorite toy. There are times when we need the comfort that the warm and comforting hand of our parent when we were young that made us feel all was right with the world. I think I am in one of those times right now and with my dad once so powerful both in the physical and spiritual sense being gone and my mother, his sidekick, lover and wife of seventy-three years gone where do I turn?

Psalm 121: “I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains? No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains. He won’t let you stumble; your Guardian God won’t fall asleep. Not on your life! Israel’s Guardian will never doze or sleep. God’s your Guardian, right at your side to protect you—Shielding you from sunstroke, sheltering you from moonstroke. God guards you from every evil; he guards your very life. He guards you when you leave and when you return, he guards you now, He guards you always.”

You want to be strong because people are looking to you to say what needs to be done next and how can you tell them when you don’t know yourself? You have to do what I heard my dad say so many times at home and over the pulpit, he would say he would grab himself by the nap of the neck, take himself to the nearest mirror, look at himself straight in the eyes and have a little talk with the person that was causing him so much trouble!

My problem is that I took the words to the song “Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me”seriously but instead of letting Jesus calm the storm in my life and bring the peace I tried to fix it myself and I have found that does no good what-so-ever.

Matthew 10:29-31 “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.”

With me, He just has to keep up with the color and length of my hair!

Psalm 147:2-6 “He heals the heartbroken and bandages their wounds. He counts the stars and assigns each a name. Our Lord is great, with limitless strength; we’ll never comprehend what he knows and does. God puts the fallen on their feet again and pushes the wicked into the ditch.”

Sometimes it just has to be enough to know that God knows what we have done, and sometimes what we have not done. He is our righteous judge and knows all things! Next time someone tries to put you down or make you feel less than, shove the words to these scriptures down the accusing throat! These scriptures let me know that one day God will look at me, recognize all the good I have done, forget all the bad I have done, and say “Well done, my good and faithful servant! Enter in!”

My closing thought is that we should “Dwell in the secret place of the Most High” (Psalm 91) and look up, God knows exactly where you are fa la la la la la la la la!
